Viscount Classical Organs supplied an instrument in 2014 to cover the Selby Abbey pipe organ rebuild which is now nearing completion. Now the summer recital series will shortly get under way and for this final appearance in the Abbey, we have loaned the Regent Classic Custom built organ pictured right.
This organ most frequently resides in an old Tythe barn (read about how we filmed our mini-tutorial series in the barn on the organ).
Today, however you can see four strong men, (the 4th was behind the camera) have come to pack the organ up for its journey to Selby Abbey for its exciting appearance at this Summer’s organ recital series.
Experience pays off when it comes to delivery
The process is not too challenging apart from managing the weight but one does first have to remove the organ doors which would otherwise knock together in transit with a risk of damage to the crisp edge detail.
The organ is placed on a board and manoeuvred across the room and through a double doorway into the back of the waiting van. If you have never done it before it all seems a little difficult but when you have done it as many times as these people have it really is very simple.
Regent Classic Organs concert series at Selby Abbey
This year’s Selby Abbey concert series celebrates the 100th anniversary of Max Reger’s death. If you can come to any of the dates in June and July then please do! Click the banner below to go to a post all about the recital programme and details on the organ players.
The Abbey is a really spectacular medieval building and well worth a visit on its own account but if you can make it a Tuesday in the near future you will have the bonus of a wonderful free organ recital.
I have had a passion for church organs since the tender age of 12. I own and run Regent Classic Organs with a close attention to the detail that musicians appreciate; and a clear understanding of the benefits of digital technology and keeping to the traditional and emotional elements of organ playing.
