Regent Classic Organs invite you to the Battle of the Organs at Selby Abbey on the 14th September 2018 at 7.00pm. John Scott Whiteley and D’Arcy Trinkwon will battle it out on the Abbey’s magnificently restored Hill organ and a new Regent Classic Organ that is a replica of a 1930’s Skinner organ console.
About the Organs
The Organ of Selby Abbey is one of the finest romantic instruments in Britain. Built in 1909 by William Hill & Son, it is considered a magnificent example of one of the most highly-respected organ builders and a valuable survivor of this period of the firm’s work. The superb solid oak organ case was designed by John Oldred Scott, son of the celebrated George Gilbert Scott.
The Regent Classic Console was inspired by a trip to America which involved a stop at St Peter’s Church in Morristown, New Jersey and another stop at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel in Chicago.

About John Scott Whiteley
John Scott Whiteley is Organist Emeritus of York Minster, having worked at that great cathedral from 1975 until 2010 when he retired from the Minster in order to pursue his freelance career.
He studied at the Royal College of Music with Ralph Downes and W.S. Lloyd Webber, and with Flor Peeters in Malines and Fernando Germani in Siena. John won first prize in the 1976 National Organ Competition of Great Britain.

About D’Arcy Trinkwon
One of the distinguished organ musicians of his generation, D’Arcy is an acclaimed artist around the world. He has performed more than 900 recitals in concert halls, cathedral, and churches worldwide, including radio and television appearances.
D’Arcy Trinkwon studied at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester). In addition to other studies around Europe, he completed his formal training with Jean Guillou and Odile Pierre in Paris. In addition to private pupils, his own teaching has included masterclasses, coaching and examining at conservatoires and colleges at home and abroad.
Alongside his concert career he is Organist of Worth Abbey (OSB) and Organist to the University of Sussex. More inspiring performances along with lots of reviews, facts and quotes can be found on D’Arcy’ Trinkwon’s website – a joy for all organ music lovers!
