Denstone College November 2023
The rebuild of the Copeman Hart instrument is by far the largest UK instrument we have built to date. It has a Positive division that also plays from the choir manual taking the stop list for this 3 manual, 5-division instrument to almost 80.
Speaker locations are vital to the success of all digital instruments. Denstone Chapel often known as ‘The Lancing of the North’ set some difficult issues to resolve. Considerable power is needed to lead a full chapel with some 700 students in place. No credible single speaker location was available for an instrument of this scale. This combined with a need to conceal the 28 speakers through which it plays led to us choosing the very high wall plates in the nave and the windowsills in the east end apse. As you can see the scaffolding involved was substantial.
